Summary
The paper deals with energy consumption and its reduction in supermarkets. Most energy is consumed by units used for cooling the goods and units for air conditioning and lighting. Energy consumption may be reduced by design quality, building in electronic thermo-expansion valves, overcooling the liquid refrigerant, building in evaporators with direct expansion in air-conditioning units and by using condensation heat generated by cooling units for heating in the winter and heating the sanitary water. The technical solution for cooling and air-conditioning in supermarkets, which "Soko Inzenjering" has been applying in Serbia for many years is also presented.
