In many developing countries improved crop yields are being seriously diminished by poor treatment during and after harvest. Governments must encourage modernization and improvement programmes encompassing the inter-related subjects of harvesting, storage, drying, cleaning, grading, milling, packaging, transportation, marketing, quality assessment, training, pest control, food science and economics.
