Summary

A THEORETICALLY BASED PREDICTION OF CRITICAL HEAT FLUX HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR HIGH VELOCITY FLOW IN TUBES. TURBULENT INTERCHANGE BETWEEN THE BUBBLY LAYER AND CORE REGIONS IS TAKEN AS THE LIMITING MECHANISM. GOOD AGREEMENT WAS OBTAINED BETWEEN PREDICTIONS AND EXPERIMENTAL DATA FOR WATER FLOWING IN UNIFORMLY AND NON-UNIFORMLY HEATED TUBES. THE PREDICTIVE PROCEDURE DEVELOPED FOR WATER WAS FOUND TO YIELD RESULTS IN AGREEMENT WITH EXPERIMENT FOR EACH OF THE FOUR OTHER FLUIDS EXAMINED.
