Pressure drops of CO2 and oil mixtures in horizontal smooth and micro-fin tube evaporators.

Author(s) : GAO L., ONO T., HONDA T.

Summary

Experiments on pressure drop of pure CO2 and CO2-oil mixtures in evaporators with horizontal smooth and micro-fin tubes have been carried out. The smooth tube is a stainless steel tube with an inner diameter of 3.0 mm. The micro-fin tube is a copper tube with a mean inner diameter of 3.04 mm. Experiments were carried out at mass velocities from 190 to 1300 kg/(m2.s), saturation temperatures of 0 and 10°C, the circulation ratio of lubricating oil (PAG) is from 0 to 0.87 wt%. For the smooth tube, both of the homogeneous model and the Muller-Steinhagen and Heck correlation correspond well with the present experimental results for pure CO2. In the case of CO2-oil mixtures, the pressure drops of the smooth tube increase with increase in oil circulation ratio. For the micro-fin tube, the experimental pressure drops for pure CO2 are about 20-70% higher than those of the homogeneous model. In the case of CO2-oil mixtures, the increments of the pressure drops for the micro-fin tube due to increasing the oil circulation ratio are less than those for the smooth tube.
