THE AUTHORS CITE MANY EXAMPLES OF INDUSTRIAL WASTE GASES WHICH MAY BE BOTH VALUABLE AS RECLAIMED FUEL OR PROCESS FEEDSTOCK AND MUST BE CONTROLLED AS ATMOSPHERIC POLLUANTS. THEY THEN DESCRIBE SEVERAL EXAMPLES OF RECLAMATION SYSTEMS IN WHICH GENERALLY INITIAL COOLING IS PROVIDED BY HEAT EXCHANGE FROM OUTGOING STREAMS AND REFRIGERATED DISTILLATION IS PRODUCED EITHER BY USING THE RECOVERED REFRIGERANT, OR BY EXTERNAL REFRIGERATION SYSTEMS. IN THE RECOVERY OF COKE OVEN GAS, FOR EXAMPLE, CONVENTIONAL AMMONIA REFRIGERATION IS USED FOR FEED GAS COOLING TO ABOUT 228 K (-45 DEG C) AND A NITROGEN CYCLE SERVES THE FRACTIONATING COLUMNS, CULMINATING IN A METHANE CONDENSER OPERATING AT 93 K (-180 DEG C). OTHER SYSTEMS ARE DESCRIBED AS ALSO ARE THE METHODS OF PURIFYING THE PRODUCT STREAMS BY SUITABLE ABSORPTION PROCESSES. D.W.H.
