STARKSPUR GOLDEN DELICIOUS APPLES WERE GROWN ON 6 ROOT-STOCKS -SEEDLING, MALLING (M) 1, MALLING MERTON (MM) 106, M 7, OAR 1, M 26 -IN A HIGH DENSITY ORCHARD AT TWO LEVELS OF K AND N. THE EFFECT OF K WAS NEGLIGIBLE, HIGH N PRODUCED GREENER FRUIT. M 26 PRODUCED LARGER, MORE YELLOW FRUIT, BUT HAD MORE STORAGE BREAKDOWN. OAR 1 FRUIT WAS SMALLER THAN OTHER ROOTSTOCKS, MORE YELLOW IN COLOUR AT HARVEST AND AFTER 6 MONTHS AT 273 K (0 DEG C), M 7 HAD LOWER SOLUBLE SOLIDS THAN REMAINING VARIETIES. G.R.S.
