SOME OBJECTIVE TESTS TO ASSESS THE OPTIMUM MATURITY FOR HARVEST HAVE BEEN WORKED OUT. THE TIME TAKEN TO ATTAIN OPTIMUM MATURITY AS INDICATED BY THE SENSORY QUALITY OF STORED APPLES, HOWEVER, VARIED FROM YEAR TO YEAR VIZ 130-145 DAYS FROM FULL BLOOM. FRUIT HARVESTED AT OPTIMUM MATURITY SHOWED LONGER AND SHRIVEL FREE COLD STORAGE LIFE, MAINTAINING SUPERIOR SENSORY QUALITY DURING STORAGE.
