Summary

Hayward, Monty and Bruno kiwifruits were stored at 2 temperatures (0 and 1 °C) and 97% relative humidity. The controlled atmosphere conditions were: 1 kPa O2 + 3 kPa CO2; 2 kPa O2 + 5 kPa CO2; and 2 kPa O2 + 7 kPa CO2. The storage period was 45 days for all 3 cultivars in cold storage but 90 days for Monty and Bruno and 195 days for Hayward in controlled atmosphere storage. The temperature of 0 °C maintained higher firmness in the 3 kiwifruit cultivars than 1 °C. All the controlled atmosphere conditions maintained the good quality of the fruits during storage, although 2 kPa O2 + 7 kPa CO2 maintained the highest fruit firmness. Hayward showed the best storability, followed by Monty and Bruno.
