Summary

In the early design stages of an adsorption heat pump or chiller, there is frequently a need for a relatively simple computational tool that can provide first estimates of the coefficient of performance (COP) and power for various working pairs, adsorber configurations and temperature conditions. A detailed dynamic model which accounts for all the important heat and mass transfer mechanisms can provide a good estimate of the COP and power, but requires greater computational resources and more specific assumptions on the heat and mass transfer properties of the device as well as on its control strategy than are typically available at an early design
stage. Thus, an approximate model is required which can rapidly provide initial estimates for the COP and power of a module with minimal inputs.
