Summary
This research study presents the results of a computer simulation of an ideal vapour-compression refrigeration cycle using R-12 (an ozone depleting refrigerant) and two non-CFC refrigerants. The simulation program incorporates explicitly correlated saturated and superheated properties of R-12, R-134a, and R-152a. The simulation program was used to generate graphs showing the relative performance of the refrigerants on the following performance indicators: a) volumetric flow rates at compression suction per ton of refrigeration; b) COP; c) pressure ratio; d) mass flow rate of refrigerant per ton of refrigeration; e) discharge temperature; and f) refrigerating effect. From the graphs generated, analyses were made to determine the potentiality of R-134a and R-152a as replacements of R-12.
