Summary

CALORIMETER MEASUREMENTS WITH R134A WERE CARRIED OUT ON 4 DIFFERENT DISPLACEMENTS IN A RANGE OF HOUSEHOLD COMPRESSORS. PART 1 DEALS WITH THE CALORIMETER TESTS OF THE SINGLE COMPRESSORS. PART 2 DESCRIBES THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION ON CHEST FREEZERS. THE R134A PROTOTYPES USED SHOWED IMPROVEMENTS COMPARED TO STANDARD R12 COMPRESSORS WITH THE SAME DISPLACEMENT. FOR VERIFICATION, 2 PROTOTYPE SERIES WITH 2 DISPLACEMENT SIZES WITHIN THE SAME BASIC DESIGN WERE MANUFACTURED. ON THE BASIS OF THIS INVESTIGATION THE FOLLOWING CONCLUSION IS REACHED: A SWITCH-OVER FROM R12 TO R134A DOES NOT RESULT IN ANY NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES WITH REGARD TO ENERGY CONSUMPTION FOR HOUSEHOLD REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZERS.
