Summary
The paper describes the possibility of R32 as a future refrigerant for air-conditioner use. For this purpose, ignition and combustion experiments were carried out, simulating the leakage from an air conditioner. In addition, drop-in tests of the small size air conditioner with the cooling capacity of 2.8 kW were carried out. The results are: 1) under some conditions, R32 was ignited and burnt; 2) at the rated capacity operation, the COP with R32 improves by about 7% for cooling and about 2% for heating; 3) at the medium capacity level, the COP of the air conditioner with R32 is slightly lower than that of the original one with R-410A.
