Summary
The probability of finding new ideal refrigerants which have the same or better properties than those we have given up is extremely unlikely. However the azeotropic mixture R723 has some advantages such as recirculation of mineral oil, low discharge temperatures, low sensitivity to moisture, good volumetric capacity and stability inside the system. The refrigerant is compatible with materials used for ammonia and can be used in certain semihermetic compressors and small to middle size systems. The refrigerant is expected to be classed in B2. This refrigerant has been developed at ILK in Dresden.
