Summary

NATURAL INFILTRATION INTO A MODERN < TIGHT > BUILDING MAY BE INSUFFICIENT TO DILUTE RADON EMISSIONS FROM THE FOUNDATIONS. THIS WILL BE MORE SERIOUS IN GEOLOGICAL LOCATIONS WHERE THE GAS IS COMMON, AND IN CERTAIN TYPES OF HOUSE CONSTRUCTION AND OF VENTILATION SYSTEM. SAMPLE TESTING WAS CARRIED OUT IN AREAS OF KNOWN RISK, AND COMPARED WITH CONTROLS IN OTHER AREAS. MEASURED INFILTRATION RATES CAN INDICATE THE RELATIVE DEGREE OF HAZARD. A.R.T.
