Summary

A NOVEL APPROACH TO MODELLING OF THE MASS TRANSFER FLUX IN RAPID EVAPORATION AT THE SUPERHEAT LIMIT IS PROPOSED. THE KEY CONCEPT OF THIS APPROACH IS THAT, AT THE SUPERHEAT LIMIT, THE MASS TRANSFER FLUX IS DETERMINED BY THE VELOCITY OF THE EXPANDING BUBBLE INTERFACE RELATIVE TO THE SURROUNDING LIQUID. THIS IS THE INVERSE OF CURRENT CONCEPTS OF MASS TRANSFER DURING BOILING. THE MODEL HAS BEEN APPLIEDTO THE CASE OF A BUTANE DROPLET EVAPORATING AT THE SUPERHEAT LIMIT. THE SIMULATION RESULTS ARE IN GENERAL AGREEMENT WITH EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS PUBLISHED IN THE LITERATURE.
