This thesis, presented for the degree of Master of thermal energy, studies the problem of the use of alternative refrigerants, especially in household refrigerators. Extract of contents: work basis: environmental problems (ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, Montreal Protocol, present trends); review of the characteristics of conventional and alternative refrigerants; analysis of refrigerating cycles; application fields of various refrigerants and analysis of the behaviour of each one within its own application field: description of a test bench for a household refrigerator; economic justification of the use of alternative refrigerants.
