Real-time measurement of the oil concentration in liquid refrigerant flowing inside a refrigeration machine.

Author(s) : LEBRETON J. M., VUILLAME L., MORVAN E., et al.

Summary

An ultrasonic device was calibrated to measure in situ and in real time the polyolester (POE) oil concentration of the refrigerant liquid R410A. The first part of the paper is devoted to the properties of the mixture, to the effects of the presence of oil on the speed of sound propagation and to the calibration and validation procedures carried out with a saturated liquid refrigerant. In the second part, the first results obtained on this installation are presented. The speed of sound in the POE/R410A mixture is markedly function of the temperature and of the oil concentration, but it also significantly depends on the pressure.
