Recent developments in the design of new refrigerant mixtures for existing and future systems.

Author(s) : DIDION D. A.

Summary

The author concludes that near-azeotropic alternatives in traditional machines need to be analyzed for possible temperature pinchpoints in the evaporator and condenser, which could lead to performance degradation. Minor heat exchanger design changes could lead to minor performance improvements. Advanced systems using wide-glide zeotropic mixtures have the potential to improve performance through temperature glide matching, recovery of lost expansion work, and capacity (composition) control. However, design and development procedures are complex and very product specific. Sealed refrigerant systems where the loads are well defined are the most likely applications for acceptance.
