Recent R&D status on 70 MW class superconducting generators in Super-GM project.

Author(s) : AGETA T.

Summary

Three types of 70 MW class superconducting generators, called model machines, have been developed to establish basic technologies for a pilot machine. Series of the on-site verification tests were completed in 1999. World's highest generator output (79 MW), world's longest continuous operation (1500 hours) and other excellent results were obtained. The model machine was connected to commercial power grid and the fundamental data was collected for future utilization. It is expected that fundamental technologies on design and manufacture required for 200 MW class pilot machines are established.
