Summary
The National Energy Conservation Agency and Warsaw University of Technology have developed system of recommendations of ventilation systems based on evaluation of annual primary energy use (taking into account auxiliary energy use) and air quality (with air volume as a investigated parameter). The evaluations are based on simulations performed in two steps. Air flows are modeled by CONTAM. Thermal analysis of whole buildings are performed separately using 6R1C model (successfully verified with the BESTEST modification of simple hourly method 5R1C described in EN ISO 13790:2007). CONTAM simulations are performed with 5 min time step. Proposed methodology allows auditors to model all types of ventilation: natural, mechanical and hybrid. The system of recommendations uses two types of virtual reference buildings: 8 story multifamily building and 2 story single family building. All assumed parameters fulfill minimum requirements for new buildings described in Polish Building codes. Reference buildings are equipped with 2 reference ventilation systems: natural (passive stack ventilation) and mechanical extract ventilation (central fan). For both buildings detailed schedules of occupation are defined (including schedules for cooking, taking shower etc.). The reference primary energy use is an average value for two reference ventilation systems. Investigated ventilation systems, depending on percentage of reference primary energy use, get an energy class from A1 to D. Recommended system has to provide at least 30% of energy savings and at the same time has to ensure that during occupation required ventilation rate is supplied.
