Summary

Will the E-35421 standard for transfer equipment and the ban on CFC degassing into the atmosphere encourage the professionals to recover the fluids? Recovery equipment exists on the market. E-35421 standard permits comparison of types of equipment before reaching an agreement. Fluids recovery has to be included in the work procedure and become an automatic consideration of refrigeration engineers. Sales of recovery installations have increased. Simultaneously, working techniques and design of installations should be investigated. The evolution of recovery equipment, after tests made on four types according to E-35421 standard and presented in the form of charts is described: standardization of a method of suppression transfer, development of portable equipment and standardization of self extraction. Standards have improved. Finally, a two-stage unit for improved recovery, enables "low pressure" (1 millibar absolute) to be reached. J.L.
