THE INVESTMENT COSTS DECREASE PROGRESSIVELY IN TERMS OF CAPACITY. A COMPARISON OF THE ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF CONTINUOUS OR BATCH FREEZE-DRIERS CLEARLY SHOWS THE POSSIBLE SAVINGS IN CONTINUOUS OPERATION. IT CAN BE ACHIEVED BY AVOIDING THE HEATING AND COOLING CYCLES OF METAL SHELVES AND OF THE HEAT TRANSFER FLUID.
