Summary
It has been made clear that the deliberate venting of any halocarbon refrigerant, including R22, will be considered an offence under the Environment Protection Act. Unwanted refrigerant will be classed as hazardous waste, which it is an offence to discharge deliberately. The note offers guidance, based on the opinions of The Institute of Refrigeration, about what constitutes deliberate venting.
