Refrigerating system performances under frosting conditions: predictive model and experimental validation.

Summary

Frost formation and thickness growth are predicted in this paper using a theoretical model based on heat and mass balances. Thus, the model was coupled to a refrigerating system to calculate its performances under frosting conditions, especially in environmental conditions favorable for appearance of such phenomenon. Confrontation of theoretical model to experimental results was carried out on a storage cell which the temperature and humidity are controlled. Numerical results revealed that the proposed model predicted sufficiently well both correctly evaporating temperature and COP degradations.
