Summary

SYNTHESIZED HYDROCARBON FLUIDS (SHF) AND POLYGLYCOLS HAVE ADVANTAGES OVER CONVENTIONAL MINERAL OILS. THEY HAVE NO WAX CONTENT. FLUOROCARBON REFRIGERANTS LIKE R22 ARE LESS SOLUBLE IN SHF. HOWEVER, THE SOLUBILITY OF R22 IN POLYGLYCOLS IS HIGHER. THE VISCOSITY IS REDUCED BY THE DISSOLVED REFRIGERANTS, WITH A PROPERLY SELECTED SYNTHETIC FLUID, THE FINAL VISCOSITY UNDER THE EFFECTS OF TEMPERATURE, PRESSURE AND TYPE OF REFRIGERANT CAN BE HIGHER. THE HIGH AND LOW TEMPERATURE FLUIDITY OF SHF IS VERY GOOD AND THEY HAVE A VERY HIGH NATURAL VISCOSITY INDEX. SHF OFFER BETTER PROTECTION AGAINST WEAR OF BEARINGS, CYLINDERS AND PISTON RINGS. IN ROTARY SCREW COMPRESSORS THEY GIVE SUBSTANTIAL BENEFITS IN VOLUMETRIC EFFICIENCY. THE SHF AND POLYGLYCOLS ARE VERY STABLE IN THE PRESENCE OF REFRIGERANTS AT TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES FOUND IN THE MOST ADVANCED SYSTEMS (ESPECIALLY FOR COMPRESSORS HANDLING LPG AND PROPANE). LUBRICATION RESULTS ARE BEST POWER CONSUMPTION, LOW MAINTENANCE COSTS AND LOW LUBRICATION COSTS.
