Refrigeration transport consumption: how to integrate best practices.

Number: 296288

Author(s) : DEVIN E., CAVALIER G.

Summary

Whether for the purpose of assessing GHG or air pollutant emissions or for assessing energy audit in transport, the inclusion of good practices in refrigerated transport is often missing from performance indicators or calculation methodologies. As part of an energy saving program (ECLER program), a study has been conducted to define energy consumption indicators which consider the impacts of several good practices. Indeed, if part of the energy consumption due to refrigeration process comes from the transportation phase and depends essentially on the insulation of the boxes, the regulation mode of refrigerated units and external ambient conditions, a significant part of the energy is consumed during the loading/unloading phases when the vehicle is in static phase. This publication provides an inventory of the most important best practices to save energy and presents indicators developed by Cemafroid and TK'Blue Agency to manage the savings achieved and the resulting environmental benefits.
