Summary
Ammonia as refrigerant is gaining increasing favour also in Italy in the light of the environmental emergency, but its use is restrained by safety regulations. The paper gives a comprehensive picture of the regulations presently in force in Italy concerning ammonia; particular attention is paid to fire safety, electrical equipment, pressure relief valves, machinery room, regulations on toxic gases and restrictions on using ammonia as refrigerant.
