Summary

Surveys show that the number of supermarkets and convenience stores in the USA is remaining approximately constant. New refrigerating equipment will be bought for reasons other than the building of new stores. Display cases may be replaced through failure or change of use, but frequently to satisfy layout changes in the stores which tend to occur on a ten-year cycle. These changes are not necessarily coupled with remodelling of plant rooms. Condensing and compression plant is more likely to undergo change due to energy efficiency, rebates from power utilities, or change from CFC refrigerants. The total global warming impact should be considered and could be very important in choosing a future refrigerant, but many clients will prefer to base their decisions on economic grounds only.
