REFRIGERATION STATISTICS.

Type of article: Article

Summary

1989 FIGURES FOR THE USA INDICATE A SMALL INCREASE IN THE OVERALL NUMBER OFCOMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION UNITS. MOST SELF-SERVICE CASES MAINTAINED THEIR MARKETS, BUT GLASS-DOOR, REACH-IN, FREEZER CASES WERE MORE POPULAR THAN ISLAND CASES OR OPEN MULTI-DECK CASES. SUPERMARKET SALES WERE UP, WITH SOME UNITS SWITCHING TO R22 TO REDUCE CFCS. TRENDS INDICATE THAT COMBINATION STORES WILL TAKE A LARGER SHARE OF SUPERMARKET BUSINESS, WITH OIL COMPANIES AMONG THE MAIN PROMOTERS. RESTAURANT OPERATORS ARE INCREASING WHILE HOME REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZER SALES HAVE DECLINED. UNIT COOLER DEMAND IS STATIC WHILE THE SALES OF COMMERCIAL ICE-MAKERS HAVE REDUCED. D.W.H.
