Requirements for FFS SC magnets cryogenic system.

Summary

The international accelerator complex of ions and antiprotons (FAIR) is currently under construct at Darmstadt, Germany. NRC “Kurchatov Institute” - IHEP is developing 4 superconducting quadrupole magnets, which are part of the final focusing system for intense heavy ion beams (FFS), to research hot dense matter by the HED@FAIR collaboration. Created quadrupole magnets should have a unique combination of 260 mm large internal diameter of superconducting coil and 38 T/m high magnetic field gradient at 4.5 K. magnets operating temperature. The design of the quadrupole, its main characteristics are presented, quadrupole magnets thermal load is calculated, superconducting coil cooling channels design is presented, magnets operating modes (cool down, cooling, warm up) are considered, and requirements for the cryogenic system of 4 superconducting quadrupole FFS magnets are formulated.
