Summary

The author describes the methodology he uses to study the possibilities of obtaining azeotropic or near-azeotropic mixtures, with a view to replacing CFCs. With the data on liquid-vapour equilibrium of the components, a simulation model of molecular interactions (UNIFAC) can be used to predict those of the mixture and, hence, the equation-of-state parameters. The method is valid to within 5% for any mixture of halogenated derivates of saturated alkanes.
