Summary

On the basis of the current available research results into water vapour compressors, a suitable water vapour compressor was selected and the new type of such refrigerators with totally natural refrigerant-water were studied and analysed. Assuming that the performance of other key components in the refrigerator remained the same, taking into consideration different compression processes such as isentropic process and polytropic processes and treating water vapour as perfect gas and real gas, respectively, the overall COPs of three water vapour compression refrigerators (WCR) were computed and compared with varied evaporation temperatures (7-10 °C) and condensation temperatures (35-40 °C). The results show that the power consumptions of the WCR are quite different at the different compression processes. WCR will be a promising refrigerator to replace the CFCs and HCFCs refrigeration equipment in the future because of its high COP of more than 9.0 and being totally environmentally friendly.
