Summary
Describes the calculation of the amount of energy needed to supply residences in developing countries with air conditioning for an energy-efficient base case building, as well as for a number of alternative assumptions, using PEAR 2.1 (Program for Energy Analysis of Residences). Presents and discusses the results and their implications. Concludes that it is important to improve building envelopes and appliances before air conditioning is widely introduced in developing countries.
