Results of the survey: "What equipment is now available to run ozone-safe refrigerants?"

Summary

There currently exists some confusion due to the large number of refrigerants developed by producers, such that decision makers and end users hesitate to make a choice out of fear of error. Several lists of substitute refrigerants have already been drawn up, including at the IIR. Before the refrigerant can be used it must have been tested in refrigerating equipment that must be made commercially available. Refrigeration specialists need a simple list that tells them the main options they have for an installation today. Component manufacturers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) were questioned, along with some contractors in early 1997. About fifty companies answered the survey, including the leaders in each application, giving a representative description of the world-wide situation. The results are presented in the form of an application/refrigerant table, including, in each case, the number of companies surveyed offering each option. (See also ref. 99-0794 in this bulletin.)
