Summary

A new type of absorption heat pump is proposed, in which a rectification column (fractional distillation column) and a reverse-rectification column are combined. The two components of a working pair are separated in the first column and re-mixed in the second. This new absorption heat pump has several advantages. In the study, four different structures of the reverse-rectification column are modelled and compared with numerical simulation. A laboratory-scale reverse-rectification column was constructed and operated under atmospheric pressure with the working mixture water-ethylene glycol. Two applications of such a new type of heat pump are presented: a heat tranformer and a heat-cold pump.
