Review of microencapsulated phase change materials for thermal energy storage applications.

Summary

This paper reviews previous research using PCM slurries and reports on the microencapsulation of PCM by five different methods. Commercially available paraffinic PCM has been encapsulated resulting in average capsule sizes ranging from 5 to 150 micrometres. The thermal and mechanical performance of the microcapsules is being tested in slurry flow wing a double pipe heat exchanger, and by incorporation into gypsum wallboard to increase the thermal mass of buildings.
