Robina Town Centre - Bazaar Street: a practical application of a hybrid system in a sub-tropical region.

Author(s) : SYMES G.

Type of article: Article, Case study

Summary

This article examines the air-conditioning system that formed an integral part of the project design and focuses upon the processes that lead to a hybrid system being selected. It was widely thought that a hybrid system incorporating natural ventilation would not provide the thermal performance needed for the Gold Coast environment. The article dispels that by demonstrating how a practical mechanical design concept can be incorporated into a special architectural project when the entire design team seeks a common goal. The technical details of the design concept and equipment sizing is discussed at length to demonstrate the methodology behind the selection of the hybrid design.
