Safety issues and controlled atmosphere.

Author(s) : MAHMOOD M.

Summary

The hazard associated with controlled atmosphere on reefer vessels is primarily depletion of oxygen in enclosed gastight spaces which are normally accessible to ship and shore crew ; hence every endeavour is to be made to prevent the likelihood of ship or shore personnel being exposed to this atmosphere accidentally. A classification society, and other members of the International Association of Classification Societies, in their endeavour to achieve the highest levels of safety are committed to give guidance in the design and implementation of the safety features essential in safeguarding human lives and the interests of the owners.
