SAFETY MEASURES FOR ENTERING THE DOORS OF COLD ROOMS.

MESURES DE SECURITE AU FRANCHISSEMENT DES PORTES DE CHAMBRES FROIDES.

Author(s) : RIEU M.

Summary

REGULATIONS STATE THAT THE AREA BEHIND COLD ROOM DOORS MUST BE KEPT FREE FOR TRUCK OPERATORS ENTERING THE STORE. HOWEVER, OFTEN DOORWAYS ARE FITTED WITH DOUBLE SWING-TO PLASTIC SCREENS WHICH BEGIN TO WEAR OUT WITH REPEATED BUFFETING BY LIFT-TRUCKS AND THEY ALSO CLOUD-UP WITH FROST DEPOSITS. TWO EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT: -ONE IS THE USE OF AN AIR LOCK WITH AUTOMATIC DOORS OPERATING ALTERNATELY, BUT IT IS STILL UNKNOWN IF THE SYSTEM WILL OPERATE AT LOW TEMPERATURE ; -THE OTHER TEST IS USING TWO-COLOUR TRAFFIC LIGHTS BETWEEN THE PLASTIC SCREENS WHICH ARE OPERATED BY RADAR DETECTORS WHEN AN OBSTACLE APPROACHES THESE SCREENS.
