Summary

The industrial refrigeration industry is traditionally not classified as one of fast-paced change. However, changes and trends do exist as evidenced by the rising interest in CO2 and its application in ammonia cascade systems. To keep pace, equipment manufacturers must constantly attempt to broaden equipment capabilities to meet the changing demands of the market. The paper discusses, from a manufacturer's perspective, the performance, design and packaging considerations required for the safe, reliable, and efficient application of conventional ammonia screw compressor packages on the CO2 side of a CO2/NH3 cascade system.
