Summary
For almost all the R12 applications, the substitute is R134a: it does not permit exactly the same temperature rise and needs use of specific lubricants, but its characteristics and performance are near those of R12. This refrigerant has been used in a laboratory on a double screw compressor for 2000 hours. The overall performance and the compressor efficiency are described together with the oil characteristics for different locations in the system.
