Seasonal cold storage in the ground using heat pumps.

Summary

Three test heating/cooling heat pumps have been set up in north Europe, with ground heat sinks to store cooling capacity in winter to use for summer cooling, and store heat in summer for winter use. The probable cyclic variations, loads and load durations need to be carefully predicted and afterwards monitored to determine the best construction and control methods. Hot and cold sinks are both possible on a large site. Knowledge of the sub-surface condition is essential. A.R.T.
