Second-law based thermodynamics analysis of a lithium-bromide absorption chiller.

Author(s) : HEYDARI A., BABADI F., JANI S., et al.

Summary

This work is based on developing a comprehensive thermal-hydraulic model for various components of an absorption chiller cycle. After performing a second-law-based analysis of the detailed performance model, the amount of entropy generation due to irreversibility in the heat exchange, mixing and fluid flow processes in various heat exchanger components of the chiller based on geometric and manufacturing constraints is obtained. Using entropy generation formulation along with the developed analytical model, design and performance of a typical absorption chiller based on a second-law energy efficiency coefficient of performance for an array of design constraints are studied.
