Energy analysis of micro gas turbine/absorption chiller combined systems.

Author(s) : CEREZO J., BRUNO J. C., RIVERA W., et al.

Summary

Absorption chillers can operate in combination with microturbines using different configurations. The purpose of the paper is to analyze three of these configurations in terms of thermal, electrical and overall efficiency and determine their performance under similar operating conditions. The configurations studied are the following: 1) a microturbine, a heat recovery boiler and a hot-water-driven single-effect water/LiBr absorption chiller; 2) a microturbine and a double-effect water/LiBr chiller driven by exhaust gases; 3) a microturbine and an air cooled GAX ammonia/water chiller driven by exhaust gases. The viability of each configuration is analyzed and a complete report on the performance of each configuration is given in terms of energy and mass balances, and efficiencies.
