Energy and exergy analysis of MPC absorption chiller.

Summary

The objective of this study is to investigate the performance of Marun Petrochemical Company (MPC) absorption chiller. The first and second laws of thermodynamics have been employed to evaluate energy and exergetic efficiency of the single stage absorption chiller with water/lithium bromide as working fluid. The performance analysis has been carried out by developing a computer program in engineering equation solver and modelling the chiller and its components. To evaluate entropy of the mixture (water/lithium bromide solution) at any point, an empirical correlation has been utilized. Exergy destruction and thermodynamic properties any point in the cycle are evaluated by using related equations or build in property data. The results show that maximum exergy destruction is occurred in the generator and absorber at various operating conditions. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the generator and absorber have greater effect on the COP and exergetic efficiency (ECOP) of absorption chiller rather than condenser and evaporator.
