SEGMENTAL CRYOPRESERVED BONE ALLOGRAFT IN BONE TUMOUR SURGERY.

Summary

MASSIVE CRYOPRESERVED BONE ALLOGRAFS WERE IMPLANTED IN 17 PATIENTS AFTER THE SEGMENTAL RESECTION OF AFFECTED BONES. HISTOLOGICAL DIAGNOSIS INCLUDED 10 MALIGNANT BONE TUMOURS AND 7 BENIGN BONE TUMOURS. IN ALL OF THE CASES, MALIGNANT TUMOURS WERE RESECTED WITH SURROUNDING SOFT TISSUES AND UNDERWENT INTENSIVE POSTOPERATIVE CHEMOTHERAPIES FOR A YEAR. AS A RESULT, NONE OF THE GRAFTED BONE OF THE PATIENTS RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY HEALED PRIMARILY. THREE OF THE BENIGN TUMOURS ALSO FAILED IN PRIMARY HEALING. HOWEVER, SECONDARY FIXATION WITH A COMPLEMENTARY AUTOGENOUS BONE GRAFT LED TO SUCCESSFUL HEALING WITHIN A YEAR.
