Selection of an ammonia-chloride salt working pair for solar sorption refrigeration system.

Author(s) : ZAJACZKOWSKI B.

Summary

In order to build a working laboratory prototype of solid-gas sorption system an analysis of its upper performance characteristics and the proper selection of working pair selection is necessary. In this paper selected aspects of thermodynamic analysis and the selection method used to identify the best working pair for the desired operating conditions are presented. The analysis deals with ideal COP values and cold production capabilities with regard to the physical and chemical characteristics of chloride salts: CaCl2, ZnCl2 and BaCl2. The influence of the properties of selected compounds and operating conditions on the refrigeration effect has been modelled. An experimental prototype using a solar collector coupled with condenser/evaporator and the fixed bed chemical reactor (adsorber) has been designed with solar collector as a energy source. Performance of such system have been analyzed and the limiting performance of solar collector has been taken under consideration in performance calculation.
