Shelf life of leeks and asparagus packed in plastic films.
Author(s) : MERCIER F., EMOND J. P.
Summary
Specific attention was given to gas levels and water loss under different temperature conditions (storage at 1 °C and display at 10 °C). Results showed that the use of a polypropylene (PP) film treated to remove condensation gave more shelf-life compared to polyethylene film or perforated PP films. Modified atmosphere conditions were measured with PP and PP + films: 4% O2 with 16% CO2 for leeks and 15% O2 and 6% CO2 for asparagus. Asparagus and leeks shelf life of 7 and 20 days respectively was possible under display conditions.
