Silence is golden with mechanically-controlled air conditioning.

La ventilation mécanique contrôlée, ou la loi du silence.

Summary

The paper describes the logical process which leads to the necessity to fulfill the acoustic comfort demand, as far as the rules for designing an installation are concerned, through the detailed knowledge of the performance of the components of mechanically-controlled air conditioning. An example for a simple calculation is given: it shows that the initial requirements for designing mechanically-controlled air conditioning are not at all based on aeraulics but on acoustics. The noise levels, which are foreseen in the new noise regulations, do not call into question the decisions made nearly twenty years ago.
