Summary

One R22-R123 mixture and three hydrocarbon mixtures were theoretically and experimentally investigated with reference to the performance of a conventional single-evaporator R12 refrigerator-freezer system. A ternary mixture R290-R600-n-pentane with 17.3% energy savings proved to be better than the binary mixtures. Gas chromatograph results showed a lower concentration of the less volatile mixture components than the charged ones, suggesting the dissolution of its less volatile components in the lubricating oil or trapping elsewhere in the system.
